What are Essential Oils and How Do They Work?
Essential oils can be described as biotic, meaning that they strengthen living tissue while destroying harmful bacteria. This is opposed to antibiotics, which destroy both friendly and harmful bacteria alike. The natural essence is used with success on living tissue and without side effects, which may not be the case with synthetic drugs. The body may become accustomed to synthetic drugs, which leads to a need for increased dosages as the drugs become less effective in their purpose. Conversely essential oils maintain their potency with repeated application continuing to strengthen living tissue while eradicating germs and harmful microorganisms.
How Essential Oils Enter the Body
There are three paths that essential oils can enter into the body:
The optimum way for the body to absorb the therapeutic qualities of essential oils is through a combination of inhalation and absorption which can be achieved through massage and bathing. Essential oil molecules are so minute they immediately breakdown and are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. When essential oils are inhaled, the olfactory system gathers fragrance molecules and delivers them to the areas of the brain that deal with emotional and psychological responses. These responses are determined by the specific qualities of the essential oil being used and can range from relaxing to stimulating. |
